Welcome to Bookmingo ("we", "our", or "us"), developed by TigerApps / AKZ Marketing LLC. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our mobile application Bookmingo — Reading Planner, Tracker & Library ("the App").
Bookmingo helps you plan your reading, track your progress, and organize your book library. You can add books by scanning their barcode or by hand, set finish-date goals, log reading sessions, keep daily reading streaks, earn achievements, and chat with an optional spoiler-free AI book companion about the book you're currently reading.
By using the App, you agree to the terms described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
✅ Bookmingo is built local-first. There are no accounts and no sign-up. Your library, reading sessions, reading plans, streaks, and achievements live on your device only. We do not store them on our servers.
✅ Bookmingo has no ads. We do not use any advertising SDK and we do not sell, rent, or share your data with advertisers, ever.
✅ Bookmingo does not request or use your location, and does not track what you read for advertising.

⚠️ Important: The messages you send to the AI book companion are sent to our secure server, which forwards them to Anthropic's Claude AI for processing. Please don't include sensitive personal information you wouldn't want processed by an AI provider.

If you never scan books, look up ISBNs, or use the AI companion, the App runs fully offline and makes no network requests.
To make barcode scanning fast and reliable, Bookmingo maintains a shared catalog of book information — ISBN, title, author, page count, and cover image. When you add a book that has an ISBN, that book information is contributed to this catalog so that other readers who scan the same book get an instant result.
✅ Only book information is contributed — never your reading activity, progress, ratings, notes, or identity. The anonymous device identifier is used only to rate-limit these contributions and is not stored alongside the book information. The catalog is a database of books, not of readers.
The AI book companion lets you chat about the book you're currently reading. When you send a message, your message text and a small amount of context (the book's title and author, and your current page number) are sent to our secure server and forwarded to Anthropic's Claude AI, which returns a spoiler-free response displayed in the chat and kept on your device for the session.
The companion is designed to keep answers spoiler-free up to your current page, and it never comments on you as a reader — only on the book. Free users get 3 companion messages per day; Bookmingo Pro subscribers get 30 per day. Anthropic may retain API inputs for a limited period for safety monitoring per their Privacy Policy. We do not use your conversations for advertising or any purpose other than providing the response.
✅ We never sell or share your companion messages with any third party for advertising, model training, or any purpose beyond providing the requested response.
Bookmingo requests access to your device's camera for one feature only: scanning the barcode on a book's back cover to look up its ISBN.
The camera is only accessed when you open the barcode scanner within the app. Bookmingo never opens the camera in the background, does not record video or take photos, and does not access your photo library.
✅ The camera is used solely to read a barcode on-device. You can revoke camera permission at any time in Android Settings → Apps → Bookmingo → Permissions, and still add books by typing the ISBN or details by hand.
Bookmingo offers an optional voice logging feature: you can say something like "page 152 of Dune" to log your reading progress hands-free. The microphone is only accessed while you are actively using voice logging — never in the background.
Speech is converted to text by your device's own speech-recognition service (provided by the phone / Google), not by Bookmingo's servers. Bookmingo receives only the resulting text, uses it locally to figure out the page and book, and does not store the audio. Depending on your device and settings, that speech service may process audio on-device or via the provider's servers per their policy.
✅ Voice logging is optional and only appears on devices that support speech recognition. You can revoke microphone access anytime in Android Settings → Apps → Bookmingo → Permissions, and still log by typing.
Bookmingo can send you a daily reminder with your reading target for the day (for example, "12 pages of Dune keeps you on track"). Notifications are scheduled and triggered locally on your device — they are not pushed from our servers.
To make sure reminders actually fire, Bookmingo uses exact alarms and can ask you to allow it to run without battery restrictions. You choose the reminder time, and can turn reminders off at any time in settings. Notifications never include the content of your AI companion chats.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their marketing purposes. We do not serve advertisements.

All local data is deleted when you uninstall the app. You can clear specific data at any time from within the app, or export a full backup file to keep your data yourself.
Bookmingo lets you export a complete backup of your library, reading sessions, and plans as a single file, and restore it later. This export is initiated by you and shared through your device's own share sheet (for example, to Google Drive, email, or local storage) — the backup file is never sent to our servers. You are in control of where it goes.
Bookmingo offers an optional Pro upgrade processed through Google Play Billing. We do not collect or store any payment information. All transactions are handled securely by Google Play.
Available options:
Pro features include unlimited reading plans, the higher AI companion limit (30/day), streak-freeze tokens, advanced statistics, and all future updates. There are no ads in either the free or Pro version.
✅ No trial traps and no ads. You can cancel a subscription in two taps from your Google Play account, and the free tier stays genuinely usable forever.
You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time in your Google Play Store account. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period.
Bookmingo is intended for users 13 and older. The online features require internet access and API processing. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 years of age.

Bookmingo is available worldwide. The app interface is currently in English; additional languages are planned. When you use the online features, your data is processed through our server (hosted in the United States via Vercel), Google Firebase, Anthropic's AI infrastructure, and the book-metadata providers. By using those features, you consent to this data transfer.
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the UK, you have rights under the GDPR/UK GDPR including the right to access, correct, and delete your data. Because Bookmingo has no accounts and stores your reading data locally on your device, you can exercise these rights directly by clearing app data or uninstalling the app. For any data that may be processed on our servers, contact us using the email below.

Bookmingo does not use any advertising SDK, analytics SDK, or location provider.
We respect your right to delete your data. Bookmingo does not require account creation, so nearly all of your data is stored locally and under your full control.
✅ To delete all your local data: uninstall Bookmingo from your device, or go to Android Settings → Apps → Bookmingo → Storage → Clear Data.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
